The 20kW module/200kW high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis cell hydrogen production device has been selected into the first set of major technological equipment in the national energy field
On November 21st , 2024, the National Energy Administration announced the list of the first (set) major technical equipment in the fourth batch of energy field. A total of 77 technical equipment were selected, including 6 hydrogen technical equipment. The 20kW module/200kW high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) hydrogen production device, independently developed by the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SINAP, CAS) , is one of the 6 items of hydrogen energy technical equipment selected in this batch. It is the first time that SOEC hydrogen production device has been selected as national major technical equipment, highlighting the leading position of SINAP in this field of technology.

Under the support of the Strategic Priority Research Program, CAS, of "Future Advanced Nuclear Fission Energy-Thorium-Based Molten Salt Reactor Nuclear Energy System" and "Transformative Clean Energy Key Technology and Demonstration", Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Shanghai Hydrogen Technology Co., LTD., and Shanghai United Sun Energy Technology Co., Ltd., jointly set up the Comprehensive Utilization of Nuclear Energy Research Center team,successfully developed the first domestic 20kW module /200kW high-temperature SOEC hydrogen production device in China. They verified the reliability and technical feasibility of high-power SOEC hydrogen production device, provided a new solution for the efficient use of nuclear energy and renewable energy, and realized the efficient storage and flexible dispatch of energy through SOEC hydrogen production and hydrogen storage.
Under the support of the forward-looking strategic science and technology project ,CAS, of "Key Technologies and Demonstrations of Energy Storage Based on High Proportion Renewable Energy", SINAP will develop a megawatt-level high temperature SOEC hydrogen production device by continuing to iterate SOEC hydrogen production technology, and explore applications in the fields of nuclear energy, chemical industry, metallurgy, power grid, etc., thus realizing deep decarbonization of industrial processes; Combining with the distributed energy system will build a regional green energy ecology to develop efficiently, clean and sustainable the energy system, achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, and provide technical support for coping with climate change and energy crisis.
