ABSTRACT
Visual defect-free CoCrFeNiAl0.3 high entropy alloy butt joint was successfully obtained by using laser welding. The welded part shows great microstructural inhomogeneity, with average grain area increased from 14.67 mu m2 in based metal to 438.75 mu m2 in welded metal. At room temperature, the welded alloy displayed excellent mechanical property with the ultimate tensile strength up to 1150 MPa and ductility maintained 30%. Both the hardness and strength of the base metal are greater than that of the weld metal, which can be ascribed to the grain refinement. However, the tensile strength decreased to 50 MPa at 700 degrees C. And the failure shifted to the base metal, indicating strong grain boundary weakening.
