Analyses of production capacity of Sr-89 and Sr-90 in the 2 MW molten salt reactor

ABSTRACT
The production capacity of Sr-89 and Sr-90 in the 2 MW MSR are evaluated. The gaseous Kr-89 and Kr-90 are extracted from the core through the helium bubbling system, and then decay to Sr-89 and Sr-90, respectively. In order to improve purity of Sr-89 product, two cooling devices are adopted in the Sr-89 and Sr-90 production system. The annual yields of Sr-89 and Sr-90 are about 9000 Ci and 32 Ci, respectively, and the impurity of Sr-89 product is less than 2 ppm which can meet the medical requirement.
