The MEDSI 2012 Successfully Held at Shanghai
The 7th International Conference on Mechanical Engineering Design of Synchrotron Radiation Equipment and Instrumentation (MEDSI 2012), sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, was successfully held at the Broadway Mansions Hotel Shanghai during Oct 15-19, 2012. MEDSI, held every two years, is the most advanced conference in the area of mechanical engineering of synchrotron radiation facility. MEDSI 2012 was organized by the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP) and it was also the first time for MEDSI to be held in China. Over 120 delegates and 12 exhibitors from home and abroad participated in the conference.
On Oct. 15, 4 invited scientists and senior engineers gave excellent tutorials on advanced mechanical engineering of light sources, including insertion devices, nano-precision mechanism, cryogenic systems and mechanical engineering for FEL. MEDSI2012 was open on Oct. 16. During the conference, 6 invited speakers and 33 representatives, including 4 delegates from SINAP, gave oral presentations on the new facility construction status, machine upgrade progress, as well as the new technology developments in recent 2 years. During the conference, the participants had an extensive and thorough exchange on the recent research achievements and development in the fields of synchrotron radiation facility worldwide. After the visit of SSRF, SDUV-FEL and SCRF Laboratory, delegates highly appreciated the scientific and technological improvements in mechanical engineering of synchrotron radiation facility at SINAP. There were 51 posters exhibited in the poster session and the best poster prizes were awarded to the delegates from ESRF and DIAMOND, respectively. In the handover ceremony, Dr. Sushil Sharma, the Chair of MEDSI, passed the conference torch to the delegate from Australian Light Source, the host for next conference - MEDSI 2014.
The successful held MEDSI 2012 in Shanghai, not only shows the scientific achievements on design, construction and operation of synchrotron radiation facility in China, but also to further promotes the international cooperation in this field.
