“On-line Low Energy Electron Beam Irradiation Sterilization Device” accepted by Chinese Academy of Sciences
 

On December 30, 2020, the Bureau of Major Science and Technology Mission, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, organized the acceptance meeting for the project of "Online Low Energy Electron Beam Irradiation Sterilization Device". Experts from Shanghai Institute of Advanced Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shanghai Changhu New Materials Co., Ltd attended the conference. The evaluation experts listen to the project status report, the device development process report, as well as the field test results of the technical test group. After discussion and inquiry, the expert group unanimously believes that all test technical indicators of the electronic irradiation sterilization device meet or precede the requirements of acceptance index stipulated in the task book of project. As the first online irradiation sterilization device with a good application prospect, it is can be used in the face mask production line in China. Finally, the expert group agrees to accept. In the future, the project team will continue to work closely with relevant mask manufacturers to realize the industrial application of the electron beam irradiation sterilization device as soon as possible and make contributions to winning the war of Novel Coronavirus.

During the COVID-19 epidemic in early 2020, The State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense issued a notice on the demand projects collected by using nuclear technology to carry out epidemic prevention and control. As a nuclear technology application promotion project, it is applied for sterilizing the surfaces of medical servers such as masks during the epidemic, because Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics has an academic advantage in the field of electron accelerator. At the Applied Accelerator Technology Department, Zi-Feng He and other young backbone members took on the heavy burden and overcame numerous difficulties during the epidemic period, and made important contributions to the development of the device. The device will then be installed at the manufacturer for formal and accepted by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.
